Michel lives with his wife Monique in Linden near Leuven, Belgium. They have a daughter, a son, a son-in-law, four granddaughters, and one great-granddaughter.

Michel’s hobbies are classical music, opera, reading, mathematics, physics, cycling, and thinking/discussing about the meaning of life. His hobbies of worldwide travel and walking were severely curtailed late 2021 by a spinal cord injury.
